Rest in Peace Dr Peter Kapoor

We are very sad to inform members and well wishers about lose of one of our valued member and a former trustee of the South Asian Society, Dr Peter Kapoor. Those who knew Peter, would remember him as a very loving and caring person and always wanted to do the right thing. He started his career in Merchant Navy and then worked as a lecturer in Plymouth University. He was employed by the United Nations and worked in a number of countries. He was an entrepreneur and started his own business but due to health issues could not continue. He joined South Asian Society as a proactive PK Oct 2005Trustee and wanted to do more for the society but his health could not allow him to do so therefore he had to gradually step back. In the last few years he was diagnosed with IPF and as a result his health deteriorated over the course of time and Peter left us on 19th of June at his home with his wife and daughter beside him. May God bless his soul and rest in peace after fighting with ill health and we will always remember him as a true, gentle and hardworking man.

The funeral will be held on 30th June at Weston Mill at 1430, everybody is welcome.

The Organising Committee Dance Dance Dance 2013
c/o A Koshti Esq MBE

Dear Mr Koshti

Dance Dance Dance 2013

I would like to express my thanks on behalf of the Plymouth and Cornwall Cancer
Fund for your support in donating the proceeds of this year’s Dance, Dance, Dance
event. Unfortunately I was not able to attend, but I understand it was a great success
and enjoyed by everyone.

The sum of £665 raised will be invaluable in supporting this local charity which
supports local people affected by cancer and the establishments that provide
treatment and care. We do this through hardship grants, funding research projects
and staff education, supporting complimentary staffing posts. I can only thank you
again, and wish you well in any future events.

Kind regards

Sara Aspley
Chairman

Welcome

Our Motto is “Unity in Diversity” which we achieve by Uniting Cultural Diversity in the area of benefit – Devon, Cornwall and the Surrounding Areas.

The South Asian Society was founded in the year 2003 and registered as a Charity on 18th August 2005.

The main aim of the society is to create a cultural, social and mutual support network not only for Devon and Cornwall’s increasingly large South Asian community, but also for everyone interested in the culture of the countries in the South Asian region.

South Asian Society has a wide membership base of people who are drawn from countries in South Asia which include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bhutan. It also welcomes other people from the area of benefit who are interested in the South Asian culture.

Any organisation interested in furthering the work of the Society will be admitted as an Associate Member as per the Constitution.

We regularly conduct multicultural events and activities to celebrate festivals and to teach our younger generation a little bit about their origin’s cultural flavour, and at the same time, provide the opportunity for people of other cultural backgrounds to taste the South Asian ambience.

Our website will feature updates and information about our latest activities, forthcoming events and items of interest.
